Bodywork is part of every visit for Change Midwifery clients & their babies.
Lauren with family.
Meet Lauren
Florida licensed midwife, licensed massage therapist, experienced doula & advocate, Lauren is a 3rd generation perinatal professional. The granddaughter of a family doctor (Sidney, from whom she received her middle name Sydney) & a nurse (Mildred) that attended homebirths in rural PA, Lauren was raised by a breastfeeding educator & postpartum doula, her mom Mary.
24 years into the journey of a lifetime, Lauren has extensive experience in both out of hospital birth as a doula, birth assistant & student midwife with over 300 births attended during that time, & over 1000 pregnant families served as a licensed medical massage therapist specializing in perinatal bodywork. She maintains her bodywork practice for non-midwifery clients at https://bodyluminous.square.site/
In 2003 Lauren became a divorced single parent to her 6 month old daughter, who was born in a planned home waterbirth with a licensed nurse midwife & a traditional midwife. It was through this time of adversity that she grew her advocacy towards the needs other low income families, for consumers seeking safe & experienced midwives, & as a mother, for the health needs & disparities that affect Black women & children more than any other group of Americans. These core values continue to inform her practice today.
Over the course of her career, Lauren has collaborated with many other allied health & medical professionals, & also holds a Bachelors degree in Anthropology, with an undergrad research focus in American birth culture(s) & internship experience with preconception health counseling through the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health.
In 2022 Lauren returned home to Florida to attend midwifery school in a state that would allow for the completion of her education and licensure. She graduated with honors from the Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery in December 2025, obtaining her Florida license in March of 2026 on her daughter’s golden birthday. During her clinical education she interned with multiple midwifery practices, completing her clinical primaries under supervision with CNM/APRN Angela Love, of Midwife Love in Vero Beach.
Now in independent practice as the owner of Change Midwifery, she continues to grow her midwifery skills with education such as neonatal advanced provider training, GynZone international protocols for suture skills, Birth Emergency Skills training & through collaboration with other local CFL midwives, attending births & clinic as invited to support their practices as a fellow midwife.
In her spare time, Lauren enjoys gardening her own food & medicine, reading - especially science fiction, exploring wild Florida ecosystems with her adult child or partner, dancing & snuggling her cat. She is the in-home caretaker of her retired breastfeeding educator mom, Mary.
